North Hyde Park Infrastructure Improvements: Box Culverts, Stormwater, and the Green Spine

Wed, September 09, 2015 1:50 PM | Brant Peterson (Administrator)

This article provides an overview of nearly $30 million in infrastructure improvements currently underway in North Hyde Park and it's surrounding neighborhoods.

The installation of Box Culverts at the intersection of Cypress and N. Boulevard is nearing completion.

Once completed, this improvement will help alleviate flooding along Rome Ave and Cypress St and provide downstream capacity necessary for future stormwater projects. A much welcomed improvement for the North Hyde Park area.

Total cost for the project is $9.89 million with funding coming from the Stormwater Capital Project Fund as well as the Bond Proceeds Fund.

As referenced by Carlos Ramirez on our Facebook Page, Construction on the Green Spine is now underway!

The Green Spine will be a dedicated bike lane running along E. Cass Street from Nebraska Ave., Downtown, all the way to the new Jewish Community Center on Howard.

Cass Street will simultaneously undergo a two-way conversion, transforming the street into a central spine connecting North Hyde Park to Downtown as outlined in the Invision Tampa Center City Plan.

Total cost for the two-way conversion and cycle track is $9.86 million with funding coming from the Local Option Gas Tax for design and Commercial Paper Program for construction.
